2021 Grammarly Insights Reveal “Unprecedented” is still the Most Popular Adjective Since the Pandemic

Over the past 2 years, COVID-19 has impacted every facet of life and its shockwaves still haven’t diminished. Recent findings suggest that even our style of writing is being influenced by the pandemic.

This fascinating phenomenon was discovered by cloud-based writing assistant, Grammarly.

The company’s CEO, Brad Hoover, explained the findings.

“At the end of every year, we analyze user data to summarize yearly trends. For the second time since the pandemic, the term ‘unprecedented’ is the most popular term of the year.”

One doesn’t need to venture far to confirm Grammarly’s findings. A few swipes down a LinkedIn feed will reveal posts from job seekers blaming their unemployment on “unprecedented times”, and climate change activists discussing “unprecedented” levels of carbon monoxide buildup.

Hoover said that in the majority of cases, the term was spelled atrociously.

“The funniest instance was in the concluding paragraph of an article praising Biden’s COVID-19 management efforts, it read:

‘ …the unpopularity of Biden’s efforts is yet another reminder of the unpresidented times we are living in.'”
